With Townsville getting 320 days of sunshine every year, holiday-makers are a regular sight. This means that there are plenty of things you can do when you visit our fair city.
In this article, I’ve curated a list of the top 10 things to do in Townsville. You are sure to find something or another that’s to your liking because our guests are the ones who helped me put this together.
1: The Strand
This is the crowning jewel of Townsville and a great place to enjoy the tropical weather after you arrive. The Strand is 2.5 km. stretch of golden-sand beach overlooking the serene waters of Cleveland Bay as well as the Magnetic Island on the horizon. Your kids will love the playgrounds and the Strand Water Park while you can sit at the many cafes or do a little fishing.
2: Great Barrier Reef Day Trip
Spend the day exploring the Great Barrier Reef with a dive or snorkel and you’ll have something to talk about back home. Listed as a world heritage site, the Great Barrier Reef is home to diverse marine life, including stingrays and sea turtles. This is a great choice for you outdoorsy people that crave adventure in the great outdoors. The day trip comes with lunch, drinks, and snacks along with your diving equipment.
3: The Villa Resort-Casino
With over 370 gaming machines and 20 table games, you can play to your heart’s content. The casino is a great place for you and your partner to get into a thrilling game of poker or Blackjack. COVID safeguards and plans are implemented for your safety, allowing you to enjoy your time at the casino safely.
4: The Botanic Gardens
The year-round tropical climate in Townsville means that there’s plenty of diverse vegetation to observe. And the best way to do this by checking out one or more of the four botanic gardens in the city.
Queens Gardens at the foot of Castle Hill is the city’s oldest botanical garden, having been established in 1870. The Palmetum is the botanical garden with the largest public collection of over 300 species of palms. Additionally, if you want to enjoy your flora from the comfort of your car, Anderson Garden is for you. And if picnicking is more of your speed, Dan Gleeson Memorial Gardens is worth a visit.
5: Magnetic Island Day Trip
Magnetic Island, also known as Maggie, is just eight kilometers off cost and is visible from the Strand. In-store for you are clean and relaxing beaches and bays along with scenic walking trails across the national park that takes up half the island. Keep an eye out for Koalas in the wild as well as the intact WWII gun emplacements throughout the island. Some of our guests also choose to stay the night at Arcadia Village Motel on the island to better experience everything Maggie has to offer.
While there’s plenty of other things to do in Townsville, you are bound to enjoy the best our fair city has to offer by following our suggestions.
